Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme-I offers financial support, fixed deposits, and incentives to promote girl child education and welfare.
The Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme–I, implemented by the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, is a flagship welfare initiative aimed at securing the future of girl children from economically weaker families.
The scheme seeks to encourage girl child education, promote small family norms, improve the child sex ratio, eliminate female infanticide, and reduce the societal preference for male children by providing long-term financial support.
Benefits of the Scheme

A fixed deposit of ₹25,000 each is created in the name of two eligible girl children (a copy of the FD receipt is provided to the family).

The fixed deposit is renewed after five years.

From the 6th year onwards, an annual incentive of ₹1,800 is credited.

The total amount along with accrued interest is released to the girl child after she attains 18 years of age.

Condition: The maturity amount will be paid only if the girl child appears for the 10th standard public examination.
Eligibility Criteria

Financial assistance is limited to a maximum of two girl children per family.

The annual income of the parents should not exceed ₹72,000.

One of the parents must have undergone sterilisation before completing 40 years of age.

The family must have only one girl child and no male child; adoption of a male child in the future is not permitted.

Parents or grandparents must be native residents of Tamil Nadu by birth or have resided continuously for at least 10 years at the time of application.

The scheme is also applicable to girl children of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees residing in Tamil Nadu refugee camps.
Application Process (Online via CSC)

Collect copies of all required documents.

Visit the nearest Common Service Center (CSC) for biometric verification.

Fill in the application form and upload mandatory documents.

Obtain an acknowledgement receipt from the CSC, ensuring it includes the submission date, time, and reference number (if applicable).
Note: Parents or grandparents must have completed 10 years of domicile in Tamil Nadu at the time of application.
