Starlink Confirms India Pricing: Satellite Internet to Cost ₹8,600 per Month

After months of anticipation, Starlink’s entry into India is now closer than ever as Elon Musk’s satellite internet company has revealed the pricing for its residential broadband service. Starlink has updated its official India website, confirming that high-speed satellite internet will come at a premium cost. However, the pricing aligns with what industry experts had predicted ahead of its commercial rollout.

According to the website, Starlink’s residential internet plan in India is priced at ₹8,600 per month. Customers will also need to purchase a one-time hardware kit priced at ₹34,000. Once installed, users can activate the service on their own with a simple plug-and-play setup. The company is offering unlimited data, a 30-day trial period, 99.9% network uptime, and reliable performance even during adverse weather conditions. These features mirror Starlink’s global service offerings.

Currently, Starlink’s location-based pricing remains unavailable as the service is yet to become operational in India. When users check availability, the site displays a message stating that Starlink Residential is not yet available in their region but allows users to register for future updates. The availability map on Starlink’s website continues to show India as “pending regulatory approval,” although multiple approvals have already been secured.

Once fully operational, Starlink is expected to compete directly with Jio-SES and Eutelsat OneWeb, shaping the future of India’s satellite communication market. A key policy decision still under review is whether satellite spectrum will be allocated through auction or administrative methods, a move that will significantly impact all players in the sector.

Starlink’s India strategy stands apart from its competitors as it plans to offer direct-to-consumer services immediately, unlike rivals who are focusing mainly on enterprise customers. While residential pricing is now public, Starlink has not yet disclosed business and enterprise plan pricing.

The company is also expanding its on-ground presence in India. It recently posted multiple job openings for its Bengaluru office in areas such as payments, accounting, treasury, and taxation. In addition, reports suggest that Starlink is setting up gateway earth stations in key cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Noida, Chandigarh, and Lucknow to strengthen network connectivity.

Starlink received a five-year commercial satellite broadband licence from the Department of Telecommunications earlier this year. With pricing now public and regulatory approvals nearing completion, the company appears set for its long-awaited Indian market launch.
